Hannah & Josiah

I'm very happy to say that we enjoyed our continuation of Hannah and Josiah's engagement session earlier this evening. Thanks to semi-warmness, overcast weather (thank you, God), and an extremely happy couple, I'd say I'm left with too many nice photographs than I know what to do with!

Organized Spices

My first attempt at organizing our spices was by placing them inside a large container and labeling the tops of the lids. This worked extemely well for a few months.

But as I tried out several new recipes, our spice collection grew like crazy. They outgrew the container and were soon being stored on two shelves. Spices were laying sideways and it was almost impossible to select a spice out without another one falling out of the cabinet.

I was inspired by magnetic spice containers, and the idea of storing the spices on the refrigerator looked like fun. I rarely purchase items for organization because I love finding new uses for materials I already have, but I decided these containers were well worth it. I purchased them here.

I made labels for the lids, attached magnets to the bottom of each container, and filled each one with a spice. They add color to the kitchen, and they're located next to the counter where I usually prepare our dinners. Easy to access, I love this idea :)

Spring Wreath

Spring brings forth newness, warmness, and prettiness. I love the colors, the leave buds, and the singing birds :) To bring some of this to our home, I thought a spring wreath would make a nice addition to our front door. It's simple and definitely not perfect, but what beats affordable and homemade?

On the first night, I wrapped blue yarn around the wreath. I also combined the blue yarn with yellow and white. This took a very long time (think 3 hours) because it continued to get tangled, and due to my perfectionism, I had to make sure each string stayed in order...glad that part is done.

On day two, I finished the wrapping with the combined yarn.

Tonight, I added some buttons, fabric, jute, and paper flowers to the wreath :) Fun stuff.

I put together this string of words that says, "Our Happy Nest," to finish it off, but I'm not sure whether I like it or not. I think it might add to much. You can see how it looks with and without the words in the photos below :)

Please let me know what you think :) Do you think I should take "Our Happy Nest" off or leave it on? {You can reply on the right sidebar or leave a comment of course.} Thank you :)

Okay, so after several votes of "Leave 'Our Happy Nest' On," I left it on! :) Thanks for your vote.

Forest of Signs

Looking back through my design work from college, I really enjoyed working on the Forest of Signs project because I was instructed to incorporate color, texture, text, and imagery into a series of five designs based on my chosen topic -- high heels. Afterwards, I was told to turn my favorite designs into hypothetical ads, brochures, etc.

Pretty Painted Stairs

I am absolutely in LOVE with these decorative stairs. The color and design can really add a lot to the home environment. When my husband and I get our first house, you know what I'll be doing...

Beautifully Designed iPhone Cases

A few weeks ago, I got inspired to design my own iPhone case. Here are some lovely cases designed by Alicia Bock; she has several more on her site. Wow, she is a talented artist!

Creative Cards: Get Well Soon!

My good friend's mother had surgery a couple weeks ago, and the good news is she's recovering very well. But I've been meaning to write her a "Get Well Soon" letter. So, yesterday, while getting out the paper to start writing, a better idea popped into my head: Why not use my birthday baby to create a fun "Get Well Soon" photo to add to my letter? I'm sure it'll make her smile and help her heal even faster :)

So we had our photoshoot yesterday, and tonight it became this:
